Russian Screen & Printer Fonts for this Site (Windows)

Most modern computers come with Cyrillic fonts already installed, but to use this site you must download and install our free fonts because they include accented Russian vowels (for marking primary and secondary word stress) that are not included in standard fonts. Download a compressed font archive by clicking a link below. Your browser may ask where you want to save the archive. Select a convenient location on your computer, e.g. C:\ or C:\temp\. Do not use Desktop or My Documents. Uncompress the archive and install the fonts. Then configure your browser to use them for the UTF-8 (Unicode), Cyrillic and User Defined encodings. Step-by-step directions are below.

The directions below were written for a few the browsers, they apply to other browsers as well, although the terminology may vary.

  1. click this link to download and save the compressed Accented Cyrillic font archive; note where you save it
  2. find the archive on your computer and double-click it, then follow the onscreen prompts to uncompress the archive; select a convenient location for the uncompressed font files, e.g. C:\. Do not use Desktop or My Documents.
  3. install the fonts:
    1. click the Start button, Settings, Control Panel
    2. double-click Fonts
    3. click the File menu, then the Install New Font command
    4. navigate to the folder where you saved our fonts
    5. when the font names are displayed, click Select All, then click OK
  4. tell your browser to use our font for the Cyrillic and User-Defined encodings (aka character sets or code pages):
    Internet Explorer 6
    1. click Tools, Internet Options, Fonts
    2. under "Language script:" select User Defined
    3. under "Web page font:" select Accented Cyrillic
    4. repeat 2 and 3 for the Cyrillic and Unicode (UTF-8) "Language script"
    5. click OK, then OK again to return to the browser's main window

    Mozilla Firefox 1 and 1.5
    1. click Tools, Options, General (or Content), Fonts & Colors (or click Advanced under Fonts & Colors)
    2. under "Fonts for:" select User Defined
    3. under "Proportional:" select Serif
    4. under "Serif:" select Accented Cyrillic
    5. repeat 2, 3, and 4 for Cyrillic and Unicode (UTF-8) (selected under "Fonts for")
    6. click OK, then again OK to return to the browser's main window

    Netscape Navigator 7 and 8
    1. click Edit, Preferences, Appearance, Fonts (or Tools, Options, General, Fonts & Colors)
    2. under "Fonts for:" select User Defined
    3. under "Proportional:" select Serif
    4. under "Serif:" select Accented Cyrillic
    5. repeat 2, 3, and 4 for Cyrillic and Unicode (UTF-8) (selected under "Fonts for")
    6. click OK to return to the browser's main window
