Note on Russian 1103 and 1104

Taking Russian for language requirement: fast & slow tracks

The Russian language program offers these ways to satisfy the Arts College foreign language requirement:

Under Option 1a:

• any 3-credit/unit (or more) RussA course numbered 2203 (RussA 2203) and above, but not RussA 3300 (Directed Study)

Under Option 2:

• in two semesters: 1103 + 1121 in the Fall, 1104 + 1122 in the Spring
• in three semesters: 1121 in the Fall, 1122 in the Spring, 2203 the following Fall
• in four semesters: 1121 in the Fall, 1122 in the Spring, 1125 the following Fall, 1126 the following Spring

Russian 1103 is designed as "additional" conversation practice for Russian 1121, but in some ways it is a more important course than the "main" course, Russian 1121. After all, in 1121 you learn to speak Russian, but in 1103 you speak it.

Regardless of the language requirement, you should consider one of these tracks for your first- and second-year Russian language studies.

• 1st year Intensive: 1103 + 1121 in the Fall, 1104 + 1122 in the Spring
• 1st year non-Intensive: 1121 in the Fall, 1122 in the Spring
• 2nd year Intensive: 1125 + 2203 in the Fall, 1126 + 2204 in the Spring
• 2nd year non-Intensive: 2203 in the Fall, 2204 in the Spring
• 2nd year "mostly reading; lighter load": 1125 in the Fall, 1126 in the Spring
